Position the vehicle for the best lighting. Do not shoot into the sun, keep it behind you. Early morning or late afternoon is best. Taking a photo with the sun directly overhead usually results in harsh shadows and reflections. Try to capture shots with as little reflection of the surroundings as possible, especially if you want a different background for your ShowCard. Watch for reflections from grass (which can make your car look green), trees, electric wires, etc. All of these are difficult to remove and can take away from the finish on your car. Of course, if you want the ShowCard to use the actual background, then by all means, capture as many reflections as you want! Avoid using a digital zoom. While optical zoom creates very little distortion, digital will usually reduce resolution and clarity. Frame your shot. Be sure not to cut off parts of your car. Focus on the vehicle, not the background. Take the photos from various angles and heights. Also remember to take close-up photos of any details including manufacturers' emblems and decals we may use in the creation of your ShowCard. If your car is a convertible, decide on whether you want the top up or down. Because many judges like to inspect the car with the top up, some of our clients have asked for the ShowCard to have the top down. Just something to consider. This may also be a factor with cars having a sunroof, moonroof, T-Tops, Targas, etc. One client had a convertable with both a removable hardtop and a soft top. He wanted additional pictures on the ShowCard depicting the car with both tops. If you'd like to see your car set in a particular background you already have, send that along. We may be able to use it. If you have an idea for a background, but no picture, let us know. We may already have a photograph that suits your desire. |
